Which Salesforce Certifications Do I Get Next?

“I got tens of Salesforce certifications within a month.” A few years ago, that kind of LinkedIn post wasn’t unusual. Candidates building these skills on the Salesforce platform raced to add multiple certifications as soon as they could get them. In the peak Salesforce job market, everybody who had one or two certifications were hired regardless of the depth of experience they had on the platform.

SurveyVista: Effortless Data Collection to Action

This was a period when a record number of remote workers were active in the workforce. Companies demanded a high volume of Salesforce administrative services to maximize productivity from their remote teams. Businesses added and removed dozens of users every day and changed their profiles constantly.

Flow development was part of administrator job posts, but experts like myself weighed in and said the vanilla admin job did not include code or low-code development. If you post a job that includes these skills, you better label it developer, and pay the salary that goes with it.

However, the current consensus across news outlets and tech blogs highlights a fundamental shift in the Salesforce job market.

The narrative of “get certified in 90 days and land a high-paying job” is officially over. Employers are prioritizing specialized, strategic, and technical execution skills over baseline configuration credentials.

What is the Recommended Career Path Now?

Agentforce and generative AI orchestration, Data Cloud (Data 360) and data architecture, solution and system architecture, and advanced automation, especially involving integrations, are the hot areas in the Salesforce ecosystem right now.

However, if you are an administrator active in the Salesforce ecosystem, you would likely question your job prospects related to these career paths. Let’s look at each of these headlines with a realistic lens:

Agentforce and Generative AI Orchestration

Let’s be honest: Agentforce has not made the tectonic shift Salesforce has hoped for in the Salesforce ecosystem. If you don’t work for a company that wants to experiment with Agentforce, your path to experimenting with Salesforce goes through buggy Trailhead superbadges. If you are seriously interested in Agentforce, and you are lucky enough to get hired, you could apply to consulting partners that specialize in that area. Is the Agentforce market a big enough area to pay the salaries of thousands of people? That question still begs an answer after all these years.

There is no question that AI and agent orchestration are hot topics. Does your next AI career step involve Salesforce or Claude is an important question. Luckily Claudeforce possibly presents an answer in this area. Tune in to Dreamforce 2026 on Salesforce+ to find out what Claudeforce brings to the table.

Data Cloud (Data 360) and Data Architecture

Data Cloud is another area where client adoption is lower than expected. The biggest hurdles I see are the unpredictable consumption based costs and data quality readiness. Clients always knew they had a data quality problem, and they rarely acted on it. It was always a problem that was scheduled to be solved tomorrow, rather than today. Procrastination is what kills the market for Data Cloud.

If you want to learn and experiment with Data Cloud, your options are again limited. You can go on Trailhead, but the real experience is what counts here. You could get that by working in a client org where it is implemented, or in a consultancy where these products are implemented for clients.

Solution and System Architecture

What is a product, and what is an asset? How does a business sell a product? What is an order? How does contracting work for a particular business process? These are questions that are still not easily answered.

AI LLM models made digesting information from documents and meeting recordings much easier. Getting from discovery to user stories was never this fast before. However, did AI make understanding business processes easy? Not really. Can AI replace the value of specialized business and operations experience? The answer is no.

You could vibecode a solution much faster, but if your solution is based on wrong processes and user stories, you will never get the value you expect from your system.

Additionally, systems are much more integrated than before. Business process understanding coupled with a broad software platform and integration knowledge is invaluable.

I would argue that solution and system architecture knowledge and experience is more valuable than before. How can you achieve this skill, though, if you don’t have it? There are no shortcuts, you need to build the experience. One recommendation here is to lean into your past experience and specialized knowledge. For example; if you have a background in finance, you know the procedures and the way of doing business in that vertical.

Salesforce Advanced Automation: Why Admins Need Low-Code and AI Skills Now

When I say advanced automation, I mean anything beyond setting up email alerts and actions.

Flow building, also known as low-code development, is now a standard requirement for admin jobs. In the past, I kept these two skills separate. Market conditions are now forcing the admin job into this box. The click-to-configure admin job is dying a slow death.

One question I can’t answer yet: will admins end up using AI-assisted low-code development or code development? This question extends beyond the Salesforce platform. The answer may matter less than you think. If you’re an admin on the platform, lean into AI-assisted development. Start with low-code.

Understanding how enterprise software platforms integrate and interact with each other will make you more valuable.

Security is another top-of-mind topic that will continue to dominate the agenda. Educate yourself in this area to increase your worth as a technical professional.

Choosing Your Next Salesforce Certification

One rule of survival in an ever-changing world remains the same: Continuous learning and improvement is the most important skill that will prepare you for the future. The uncertainty in the market drives people to inactivity. They don’t know what to learn next, therefore they don’t do anything. This is a mistake.

Pick your lane and keep learning. One thing you can’t have back is time. Spend it wisely.

I realize I have not answered the question: Which Salesforce Certifications Do I Get Next? This is intentional. I believe my article gives you sufficient food for thought to make an informed decision on your next step.
